Leadership Greene County
Leadership Greene County
The Program
Leadership Greene County is a personal program designed to motivate participants to develop and enhance the quality of their leadership skills, and use those skills in their everyday lives and work situations.
The purpose of the Leadership Greene County Program is to:
- Identify potential and existing leaders in business, government and the community and help them prepare for voluntary leadership roles in their community
- Provide these leaders with a practical and comprehensive understanding of major issues and opportunities facing the Greene County area
- Improve the communication network among leaders from different backgrounds and interests
- Create a forum for persons of demonstrated commitment to the community to meet and exchange ideas
- Stimulate increased leadership participation and commitment in the community.

Participants in the program represent a cross-section of Greene County and are selected by a committee on the basis of their potential or demonstrated leadership abilities and their commitment to school and community. Interaction with this diverse group stimulates and challenges each member.
Coursework
Leadership Greene County begins in August with an overnight retreat, and classes continue through May, concluding with a volunteer project. Participants are exposed to a variety of viewpoints that illustrate the array of economic, political, educational, and social factors at work in Greene County. They meet with area leaders in business, media, government, education, and service organizations. In addition, participants receive training in leadership effectiveness and human behavior.
Leadership Greene County participants travel to Tennessee’s State Capitol to experience our state government in action at the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee.
Participants must make a commitment to the program. Attendance at each monthly session, including the overnight retreat and Nashville trip, are prerequisites for graduation certification. Participants will be allowed to miss one (1) full-day session or two (2) half-day sessions. Participants missing more than one (1) full session or two (2) half-day sessions will be dismissed from the program and fees are non-refundable.
Since the graduates of the Leadership Greene County program possess a unique understanding and appreciation of the inner workings of our community, they are considered to be excellent future candidates to serve on local boards, committees and task forces.
As part of the continuation of the Leadership Greene County Program, alumni serve as members of future program and selection committees. They will also be included in a speaker’s bureau used throughout the community.
Tuition
Tuition is $1,000 per participant, and it is non-refundable. This cost includes opening overnight retreat, leadership notebooks and materials, Nashville overnight trip, speakers, and program shirt.
Sponsors may pay up to $950 of the tuition fee, but the participant must pay at least $50. The individuals employeer must be a member of the Greene County Partnership in order to participate in the program.
